Total Recall

This is an informal journal and collections of our stories and photos we have accumilated on our travels. The people we meet and the places we see inspire us to travel further, for longer, so maybe we will meet again.

More Undersea Photos.

Here is the feared Trigger fish, that day he was jsut looking for scrap coral, quite peacefully, for his nest. He is actually a Titan Triggerfish, and a fantastic fish he is too. Massive and painful.
The others are just views underwater, and that hansome chap is Me!! Yes I know, I look fab, but keep looking..
The blue Scribbled Fish. A rare kinda fish, you don't see too many of them. Not sure how any of them taste, as I imagine Adam and Lorry are thinking about them with chips and vinegar.
Peace

Photo ' tastic mates!

Here are some from under the sea and by the sea, umm, nice!
The thing on the rock is a sea cucumber, a very big one, harmless, and ugly. And another clownfish, because we like them.

More random photos

This is Chris Wigg, Ross and Big Dog. Cup of tea for you all, hehe....

It is like winter outside!!!!

Hey there bloggers!!
Hows tricks, as you can tell probably already its me writing this, Kieran. I am sat in our new bungy, a real nice Bungalow situated in a small valley of coconut trees. Real peaceful, until we moved in anyway. So the other place we were in seemed to have some "things" shall we say, that didn't meet our requirements. For instance when we would arrive home from diving or a restaurant, we would open the door to find a big Rat staring back at us. Also as you saw, the big spider that stayed with us, haunted us in our sleep. So now we are in total luxury, and it costs the same as the 1st shed we slept in.
The guy who owns the bungalow is called Luke and seems cool, English, with a Thai wife, like so many english blokes here, they have a massive house in the valley and 3 bungalows. Also houses, which are going for £50,000. Amazing houses for the money. Makes you wonder really about the house prices in UK, and why anyone would want a 1 bedroom flat in Worthing, or Norwich for that matter. Get a 3 bedroom luxury house for half the price, you just have to live in Paradise, bummer!
The great thing about this place is the Internet access. We have a sweet laptop with Wi Fi built in, and am now online all the time, unless out, or asleep. So msn chatters can find us now easily. It is a relief, coz the people you wanna chat with are generally not online until the cafes here close. Oh our place is called Shadowlands. Cool huh.
I have been teaching a fair bit since the last blog, been turning down work actually, as been busy already, but the situation here is like the Buses, you wait for a job for ages then loads come at the same time. But as I do not want to lose work I try to fit it all in. Never easy. A few friends fromWorthing were jsut here, some of you might know Wigg, Ross, Ross's Sister Michelle, and Lotti, a flashback from the days at my middle school. Bizarre. I taught them to dive and we had a nice time doing so too. They are in the pics. Now they have left to go and pick up another couple of friends, Richard Harding and Andy Chapman in Phi Phi, the west coast. We were laughing at the fact it is pissing down wiith rain for the past week there, although it is grey here too, the weather is still hot. Managed to go a bit browner too, spending all that time on the boats teaching. Can still tan more though.
Amy is pretty much finished her Divemaster, I really think she has enjoyed what terrible tasks they laid on for her, and is gunning for the opening position at Planet Scuba, to be a fully fledged Divemaster full time. Wish her luck for us.
She has put it back an extra week or so, as we are heading to the mainland in a few days. Now we have moved we are ready for a little adventure. SO we pick up the night boat form here, go to Chumporn. There we need to buy some more photo memory and look for a Bamboo tattoist, as I want a huge ocotpus on my leg. Sounds weird but will look fab, as long as we find an artist. So then we will get the train right upto Chiang mai, spend a few days there checking it out, thinking of doing a day or 2 cooking course, just to give us the skills for Thai cuisine. It can't be too hard, but to get it right we must learn. After a few days in Chiang mai we are heading to a place called Pai, probably trekking, as Pai is meant to be a real beautiful place, home to a number of Waterfalls, and surrounded by hill tribes. Looking to find the tribe that wears all the metal rings around there neck. And some elephants. I can't wait as I have been kinda bored, no structure to my days when I am not working and find myself wandering upto Happy Daze and wasting my days there. But now with the extra nice place we 've got, and internet, I am much happier.( Bought an electric kettle actually, so now my Caffeine addiction is back, and loving every second of it.)
After a short trek of around 4 days we are heading into Laos. We have heard some really nice things about Laos, the fact that it is not used often by tourists, only backpacking types here and there, it has stayed very cheap and pretty basic. If you are looking for hotels and shopping malls and real roads then don't go to Laos. BUt if you are looking for some cheap adventures, living by your wit and £100, then Laos is the place to be. We will get on well there I reckon. We head in at the north, crossing the Mekong river, then spending a lttle time in Vientiane, look around, take a lot of photos, then we are going to find a thing they call "Tubing". You basically grab a inflatable tube and then hoist yourself into the river and cruise down, stopping to buy beer and food. Apparantley they pull you ashore using a huge piece of Bamboo, and then you swing back to the river via rope. Hehe. Now you know why we are going to Laos.
On our way back to Koh Tao we are stopping in to se the Tger Temple in Kanchanaburi. Amy is buzzing about this, seeing the tigers and the origin of Buddhism, as it is where Buddha found enlightenment. Those of you interested to hear more specifically about things we see and do, email us after we get back, kjscotting@yahoo.co.uk, amyycartwright@yahoo.co.uk.

We are currently waiting on guests to arrive, but the first won't arrive until end of August, which is keeping us going. Hehe. We are really looking forward to showing people we know and love what this place is like, also beneath the water. Daniel and Belinda and Admiral are coming so we gonna have some fun. By the way like I said we are online all the time now so get MSN all of you, then we can chat. Keep us entertained please.
Listen, I have talked for far too long, we will get back to you all when we return from our adventure, with lots of stories, photos, and probably illness's.

Peace and love to all. K & A. x

Hey there blogmasters and Blogmistress's!

Hello again blogmasters. Welcome to another instalment of fun filled tales from sunny turtle island! As you can see from the photo’s we have moved house. We have moved out of the wooden shed and into a larger bungalow with a separate small kitchen and bathroom, it is concrete so a bit more secure than the last place which had a huge hole under the bed! To save on wood once they had constructed the bed the mattress was supported by wooden slats around the edges, and in the middle was a gaping hole which led to outside, you only had to push up the mattress from underneath and you would be in our home! Not very safe considering all the expensive equipment we have. We have hung our hammock up outside, its lovely to sit there and read all afternoon. Even studying diving Physics and Physiology doesn’t seem to bad when you do it in a hammock!
I am coming towards the end of my divemasters, will be done by the end of the month. Had my Physics exam the other day, which wasn’t easy, but I passed. Have been assisting the instructors at the shop on Openwater and Advanced courses which is good fun and I am learning a lot. Kieran has been working at a school called Big Bubble and has also been offered some filming work with one of the production companies on the island so its all good news.
We now have the camera housing which we have only taken out a couple of times but the pictures we produced are great quality as you can see. These pictures were taken at two different dive sites, Chumporn Pinnacle which is about 40 minutes from Koh Tao by boat and Twins, which is closer. Both sites are beautiful and teeming with life. The weird looking flat grey fish are called Long finned Batfish, a school of them always hangs around one of the Buoy lines at Chumporn. The Saddleback Clownfish is a close relation of Nemo and lives in an anemone at Twins. There used to be a whole family there but legend has it that one day three of them disappeared and only one remained. No one knows what really happened, some say an anchor was dropped on them and they died (!) but the most likely explanation is that someone thought they looked pretty and took them home for their fish tank. But now it seems that the remaining one has somehow reproduced, as now there are two tiny babies. The small Pink anemone fish is also a cousin of Nemo and guardian of the anemone. On the darker picture there are Blue Angel fish and the white and yellow fish is called a Banner fish. As it has a long white ‘banner’ trailing from its head. I also saw my first turtle the other day while diving, I have seen them before but not 20 metres below the sea, it was really cool! It had two large grey fish attached to its back (Grey Remora’s) that I thought might be cleaning it but apparently they just cling on for a free ride!
We also had the pleasure of Lorna and Joe’s company for a few days when they came over from the mainland. I didn’t know they were coming as I hadn’t checked my e-mails and then randomly bumped into them in one of our favourite cafes! Anyway I took a few days off diving to party with them. Hope the English summer is treating you well Lornz! Also there are some pictures of our Italian friends Ana and Gully who have now sadly moved on from Koh Tao (as is always the way on an island like this) but we will keep in touch. Also our crazy Finnish friend Atte whose birthday it is today so we are having a small party in the tree house bar, Happy Daze.
Once my Divemaster is finished we are going to head over to the mainland to go to the tiger temple, really cannot wait! Stay tuned for some amazing pictures! We may also head up North to Chiang Mai for a few days but it has been raining a lot up there recently so we’ll have to check the forecast!
Well that’s all for now folks, keep in touch and stay happy. Have a great summer
